Galveston Little League is official; merge process is complete

After years of playing each other, Island and West Isle Little Leagues have officially become one, merging into Galveston Little League for the 2023 youth baseball season and beyond.

“The whole city has come together to provide a better baseball experience for the kids," said Blanca Flores, president of Galveston Little League's board of directors.

The months-long merge process was authorized in March of this year after receiving an in-favor vote from both boards. Prior to that point, community input, feedback from parents and coaches, and discussions with District management played a key role.

West Isle and Island formed a special committee comprised of three members from both leagues to negotiate the terms. Erik Carner, Chris Brownlee and Dave Spence represented West Isle, and Blanca Flores, Rosemary Trevino and Mike Dean represented Island.

“I applaud the merge committee and the new board of directors for acting like adults and focusing on what’s best for the kids,” said Jessie Brantley, district administrator for Little League Texas District 14, which covers all of Galveston County.

Registration will be open January 1-31, 2023 at GalvestonLittleLeague.comPractices will begin the week of February 20th and games will begin the week of March 20th.
