When the merge process was complete in November of 2022, we hit the ground running and built a league from scratch in a truly short amount of time. We worked together to get things up and running as quickly as possible.
Our first season broke every record in Galveston’s history in terms of registration numbers, teams, volunteers, and sponsorships. We had Galveston’s first Opening Day ceremony, parade, and carnival, and used every field in the city for the first time. It was great to see the whole city come together to provide a better baseball experience for our kids.
After the completion of our first season, we took the time to reflect on the experiences shared by the players, coaches, parents, and everyone else involved. We realized the All-Star tryouts were not a good fit for our league, so we voted to not hold them in 2024. We needed to start the spring season sooner to be more competitive post-Season, so we did. We wanted to see if an End-of-Season tournament was a good addition to the regular season, so we made it happen. We also made many improvements in terms of equipment, etc.
In a league of our size, it is impossible to please everyone, however we are happy to report that Galveston Little League’s second season was an overwhelmingly positive experience for our kids. Just as we did after the first season, we will work together as a new board this fall and make the adjustments necessary to have an even better spring season. This includes improving the developmental opportunities available for our kids in the fall.
In closing, the state of our league is strong thanks to the countless volunteer hours from our parents and board members, the City of Galveston and the Parks Department, the support from our sponsors, and everyone else who comes out to the fields to cheer us on.
Thank you for being here tonight. If you have any questions or concerns, we would love to hear them.
